Short answer: On a take-home salary of ₹15,000 with no other EMIs, lenders using a 50% FOIR limit could lend up to about ₹1.91 lakh at 24% over 36 months. That is the ceiling, not a typical offer. If you already pay EMIs, or your lender uses a lower limit, the amount falls. Your credit score, employer and job history decide the final offer.

Last updated: 12 October 2026. Figures are worked examples using the standard EMI formula. Your lender’s offer and Key Fact Statement (KFS) decide the real numbers.

At ₹15,000 you are at the bottom of what most lenders accept. Some NBFC apps accept salaries from around ₹15,000, while many banks and NBFCs set their minimum higher. Expect small first loans, and keep your EMI well under half your salary so you are not squeezed every month.

How much can you borrow on ₹15,000 a month?

Lenders usually allow your total EMIs to reach about 50% of your take-home pay. On ₹15,000, that is an EMI of up to ₹7,500 a month. Here is the largest loan that EMI supports:

TenureAt 16% a yearAt 24% a yearAt 30% a year
12 months₹82,662₹79,315₹76,933
24 months₹1.53 lakh₹1.42 lakh₹1.34 lakh
36 months₹2.13 lakh₹1.91 lakh₹1.77 lakh

If your lender uses a 40% limit (EMI up to ₹6,000):

TenureAt 16%At 24%At 30%
12 months₹66,130₹63,452₹61,547
24 months₹1.23 lakh₹1.13 lakh₹1.07 lakh
36 months₹1.71 lakh₹1.53 lakh₹1.41 lakh

If you already pay ₹2,250 a month in EMIs (15% of your salary), the room left at a 50% limit is ₹5,250:

TenureAt 16%At 24%At 30%
12 months₹57,863₹55,521₹53,853
24 months₹1.07 lakh₹99,298₹93,896
36 months₹1.49 lakh₹1.34 lakh₹1.24 lakh

How these are worked out: maximum EMI = salary × FOIR limit − existing EMIs, then the loan is the amount that EMI repays at the given rate and tenure. Learn more in our FOIR guide, or download the FOIR Excel calculator.

A sensible amount to ask for

Just because a loan fits the limit does not mean it fits your month. A loan of ₹1,00,000 at 24% over 24 months costs about ₹5,287 a month, which is 35% of your salary, and you repay about ₹1,26,891 in total. Leave room for rent, food and an emergency.
