You pull your CIBIL report and there it is: a loan from “Hari and Company Investments” or “Kisetsu Saison Finance”. You’ve never heard of them. Fraud? Mistake?

Most often, neither. It’s the lender behind a loan app you used. Here’s how to tell, and what to do if it really isn’t yours.

Why your report shows names you don’t recognise

Loan apps are usually not lenders themselves. The money comes from an RBI-regulated bank or NBFC, and RBI requires that lender to report the loan to credit bureaus. So your credit report lists the lender’s legal name, not the app’s brand.

To make it more confusing, one app can work with many lenders. RBI’s Digital Lending Apps list shows, for example:

AppLenders reporting it to RBI
KreditBee13 NBFCs, including Krazybee Services, Northern Arc Capital and Tata Capital
MoneyviewSeveral NBFCs, including Piramal Finance
KisshtSeveral NBFCs

Two loans from the same app can therefore appear under two different lender names on your report.

Match the mystery name in 4 steps

  1. Note the lender name, loan amount and date opened from your credit report.
  2. Search your email and SMS for that amount or date. Loan disbursal messages usually name the lender.
  3. Open your loan apps and check each Key Fact Statement for the lender’s name.
  4. Look up the lender on FundsTiger’s loan app pages to see which apps it works with.

If it really isn’t your loan

Someone may have misused your identity, or the lender may have made an error. Act quickly:

Protect yourself going forward: freeze or lock your Aadhaar biometrics in the mAadhaar app, never share OTPs, and check your credit report at least once a year.

Why this matters for your next loan

When you apply for a loan, lenders see every account on your report, including small app loans you may have forgotten. Too many active loans, or any overdue one, can lead to rejection even with a decent score.

Cleaning up and consolidating small loans before a big application often helps.

FAQs

Why does one app show two different lenders on my report?

The app may have routed each loan to a different partner lender. Both are valid if the KFS for each loan names that lender.

Will a closed app loan still show on my report?

Yes, closed loans stay in your history, marked closed. That’s normal and shows a repayment track record.

How often should I check my credit report?

At least once a year, and before any major loan application.
