You open Play Store to check your loan app and it’s gone. No page, no updates, maybe even “item not found”. Is the loan cancelled? Can you stop paying?
Short answer: no. Your loan is with the lender, not the app, and it still has to be repaid. But there are things you must do to protect yourself.
How common is this?
More common than you’d think. When we checked in October 2026, 41 apps that regulated lenders had reported to RBI no longer had a live Google Play page. Apps get pulled for many reasons: a policy issue, a rebrand, a new app replacing the old one, or a lender ending its partnership.
Why you still have to pay
The app is only a front end. Your loan contract is with a regulated bank or NBFC named in your loan agreement and Key Fact Statement (KFS). That lender:
- still holds your loan,
- still reports it to credit bureaus,
- still expects repayment on the agreed dates.
Stopping payments will hurt your CIBIL score, even if the app has vanished.
What to do, in this order
- Find your lender’s name in your loan agreement, KFS, SMS or email confirmations.
- Get the lender’s official repayment details from its own website or customer care, not from someone who calls you.
- Check RBI’s Digital Lending Apps list for any new app that lender now uses.
- Download or request your loan statement, so you know the exact outstanding amount.
- Keep paying on time through official channels, and keep every receipt.
The biggest risk when an app disappears is fraud. Scammers pose as “recovery” or “customer care” and ask you to pay into a personal UPI ID. Under RBI’s digital lending rules, repayments must go directly to the regulated lender. If in doubt, call the lender’s official number from its website.
What if the app was never on RBI’s list?
If you can’t find any regulated lender behind the app, it may have been an illegal lender.
- Report it on RBI’s Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in).
- Report threats or extortion at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
- Don’t pay anyone who can’t show you a loan agreement from a regulated lender.
Still repaying an app that’s gone, plus a few others? One loan from an RBI-regulated lender could clear them, with one EMI and one lender to deal with.
FAQs
My app was removed. Will my loan be written off?
No. The lender still holds the loan. Only the lender can settle or write off a loan, and that has its own credit-report consequences.
I can’t log in to the app any more. How do I see what I owe?
Ask the lender (from your KFS or agreement) for a loan statement by email. Ask in writing and keep the email trail.
Can I complain if nobody responds?
Yes. Write to the lender’s grievance officer. If there’s no resolution in 30 days, escalate to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.
