Short answer: True personal credit lines, where you draw as needed and pay interest only on what you use, come from bank salary overdrafts (ICICI Insta FlexiCash 11.65% to 13.40%, Axis 24×7 FlexiCredit 16% to 19%, Kotak from 13.50%, SBI Xpress Flexi), NBFC Flexi loans (Bajaj Finance, Tata Capital, Aditya Birla Capital) and apps (Freo, Stashfin, CASHe). Several apps that say “credit line” only give EMI loans from an approved limit.

Credit line vs personal loan
- Interest: a credit line charges only on what you draw, for the days used; a loan charges on the full amount from day one.
- Fees: credit lines may have yearly or per-draw fees; loans charge one processing fee.
- Discipline: a revolving line is easy to keep using. Set a repayment plan for each draw.
- Credit score: both are reported to bureaus.

Before you apply
- Find the lender’s name in the app and check it on RBI’s list of digital lending apps or our RBI-registered NBFC search.
- Read the Key Fact Statement (KFS) before you accept. It must show the APR, every fee and the total you will repay.
- Never pay a fee before the loan is disbursed. Regulated lenders deduct fees from the loan or add them to the EMI.
- Apply to one or two lenders, not ten. Each application is a hard enquiry on your credit report.
- Check that the EMI fits your budget with our FOIR calculator.
