Short answer: A CIBIL score of 700 is fair to good. Most NBFCs and many banks will consider you. Rates improve as your score moves towards 750. Your income, existing EMIs and the reason your score is 700 matter as much as the number itself.
Last updated: 12 October 2026. Figures are worked examples using the standard EMI formula. Your lender’s offer and Key Fact Statement (KFS) decide the real numbers.
What a 700 CIBIL score means
CIBIL scores run from 300 to 900. A score around 700 usually means a reasonable repayment record with a few blemishes or a fairly new credit history. Lenders do not publish minimum scores, and each one weighs your score alongside your income, job and recent history.
| Score | How lenders usually see it |
|---|---|
| 750 and above | Low risk |
| 700 to 749 | Acceptable |
| 650 to 699 | Borderline |
| 600 to 649 | Risky |
| Below 600 | High risk |
Your realistic options with a 700 score
- Bank and NBFC personal loans at mid-range rates
- Pre-approved offers from your salary bank
- Balance transfer of an expensive loan to a cheaper lender

What a loan could cost you at 700
A lower score usually means a higher rate. Here is what the same ₹1 lakh loan over 24 months costs at different rates:
| Interest rate | EMI | Total interest |
|---|---|---|
| 14% | ₹4,801 | ₹15,231 |
| 18% | ₹4,992 | ₹19,818 |
| 24% | ₹5,287 | ₹26,891 |
| 30% | ₹5,591 | ₹34,191 |
| 36% | ₹5,905 | ₹41,714 |
Add the processing fee plus 18% GST, and compare the APR and total amount payable in each lender’s Key Fact Statement.
How to raise a 700 score
- Keep card use low and pay in full.
- Avoid applying to several lenders in the same month.
- Ask your bank for a better rate if you have a long, clean record with them.
You get one free full credit report a year from each bureau (CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark). Checking your own score does not lower it.
Avoid these traps
- Offers of loans “without a CIBIL check” in return for an upfront fee or blank signed cheques.
- Apps that ask for access to your contacts and photos.
- Settling a loan for less than you owe unless there is no alternative. “Settled” stays on your report for years.
- Lenders not on RBI’s lists. Check any finance company in our RBI-registered NBFC list.
